Youth United - Youth-Led Podcast, Comic Book Creation, & Next Wave-Peer Mentorship - Next Wave-Elementary & Middle School Youth United is our big, vibrant umbrella program that brings young people together to grow, create, lead, and connect with their community. It’s a collection of youth-driven opportunities that give kids and teens space to express themselves, explore their interests, and build real skills with support from caring adults. Youth United includes several individual programs. Participants can join one, or mix and match the experiences that fit them best.
Members of Youth United will participate in various leadership/mentor programs, as well as exclusive field trips, special events, and serve as ambassadors for NB Parks Rec & Beaches.Youth United requires an application; however, membership is free. *STIPENDS available for certain programs!**(Participation/attendance requirements must be met to receive stipends, not all programs include stipends)**New Fall 2025 Programs!!
Next Wave Mentor Program
Next Wave is our mentorship pathway for youth and adults who want to make a positive impact. Young participants learn from teen and adult mentors, teens mentor younger peers while being guided by adult advisors, and adult mentors anchor the whole experience. Everyone grows, everyone leads, everyone lifts each other up.----------------------------------------------------------Podcast LessonsThis is our creative space for young people who want to jump into storytelling, media, and digital expression. Participants learn how to plan, record, interview, edit, and produce podcast episodes that highlight the voices and stories of their community. It is hands-on, expressive, and packed with real-world skills.What You’ll Learn:1. How to brainstorm and develop podcast topics2. The basics of audio recording and microphone setup3. Tips for interviewing and storytelling4. Editing and adding music/sound effects5. How to publish and share your podcast with an audience6. Teamwork and leadership skills while producing your showBy the end of the program, you’ll have the skills to launch your very own podcast episode!------------------------------------------------------------Content/Video Short Creation Program Presented by: NBPRB – Youth United Funded by: The 84 Movement Join us for a hands-on program where youth learn how the tobacco and vaping industries target young people, and then create their own videos to help spread awareness. Participants will work with NBPRB staff and New Bedford Cable Network to produce a series of youth-led video shorts focused on resisting peer pressure and promoting healthy choices.Participants will learn to:
Identify deceptive marketing tactics used by vaping and tobacco companies
Strengthen media literacy and advocacy skills
Brainstorm and script original video content
Film, act, direct, and edit using professional equipment
Work collaboratively as a production team
Program Features:
6–8 week session
For youth in grades 6–12
Create original content for a community screening and social media
Videos will also air on New Bedford Cable Network
Youth-led, supportive, and creativity-focused environment

The 84 Chapter (Youth United Edition)
As part of Massachusetts’ statewide 84 Movement, our chapter empowers youth to take action around public health, community wellness, and advocacy. Participants work on creative projects, campaigns, and leadership opportunities that challenge the influence of the tobacco and vaping industries. It is activism, youth voice, and positive change all rolled into one.
