OPEN SPACE AND PARKS: Welcome to New Bedford where beautiful parks, beaches, boating, harbor tours, regattas, picnics, baseball, golf and one wonderful zoo- offer individuals and families a space to swim, boat and play. New Bedford was the mid 19th century’s pre-eminent whaling port and for a time “the richest city in the world.” As the city grew with the Whaling Industry, so grew its Parks and Beaches. This growth left New Bedford with historic parks and landmarks to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. Today, thousands of city residents and travelers explore the city’s gems through a variety of recreational opportunities in many of our Parks and Open Spaces.
