An update on activities in New Bedford’s
parks: basketball & soccer are close-contact
sports, so our courts and fields are closed. But
we can still enjoy our parks and outdoor spaces,
as long as we continue to keep physical distance
between one another.
Update 4-7-2020: For Leagues & Field Permit Holders:
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the Dept of Parks, Recreation & Beaches is extending a no-play policy on ballfields in our public parks at this time, including those fields under license agreement. This policy will be in effect until further notice. This decision is based on guidance from the Mayor of New Bedford, the MIAA, NRPA, and the Governor’s office on best practices to avoid spreading infection. We know most people are doing everything they can to flatten the curve, and that includes suspending team sports at this time. Understandably, this is disappointing, but it is necessary.
Due to the severity of this ongoing crisis, the New Bedford Police Department is actively reminding folks out in the community to practice social distancing – even when outdoors. Our department is engaging with police to ensure these temporary policies are enforced. We thank you in advance for your ongoing cooperation and efforts to maintain social distancing for the safety of our friends, families, and neighbors throughout New Bedford.
